Google Drive Work

We have been working on an on-line version of the information we would like to have in the report. Here is the last version before we went of to create our own versions. A bigger version can be found at :https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1_0PctsgCrVKIwqG2EXR4Fr5BsSBuCQOBeMSVk3k0lPE

Another thing we have been working on was the Sphinx. Unluckily  somebody destroyed it and therefore we will have to make a new one.

We also added an Eiffel tower on our model, in order to create a modern structure which can compare the size of the Eiffel tower. The size of the Eiffel tower is 324m and is in our model 32.4cm tall. We did a trial an error method to create the tower in the correct size.

Sphinx dimensions

Marie is currently making the sphinx, using the scale 1:1000.
Dimensions:
Height: 20m - 2 cm
Length: 57m - 5.7 cm
Width: 6m - 0.6 cm

What we have managed to do!

We have managed to be finished with a lot of tasks, and are soon gluing the pyramids on top of the base for the finished product.

<----- One of our first attempts at the Great Pyramid.

<----- What we did to make the pyramids. The line segment at the middle of the triangles is the length of the slant height of the pyramid.

Although the calculations of some of the pyramids were wrong, due to misunderstanding, we have finished creating the pyramids with the correct measurements, and also checked it to see if they look right, by measuring the height. Some of the pyramids' height are 2-3 mm shorter or longer, but that is understandable as we have cut and glued them together which makes it not very accurate.

As a result of these finished made pyramids, we have started to spray-paint them gold - which Mr Nigel provided for us - and we have also received plywood for the base which we will cover with black paper.

The pyramids are still being sprayed. We have already done two layers of spray, and are soon finished with the spraying. What is a problem, however, is that we used to much spray for each layer so the golden colour is running down, making the colour look uneven on the pyramid. We hope that this won't be noticed when they are dry, and displayed.

The plywood is very big, so we have decided to place our already-made accurate map of the location of the pyramids in the middle. On the map, we have made squares which are the same sizes as the base of our scaled down pyramids. By placing a compass on the corners of the squares, we will know exactly where the pyramids are supposed to be placed, as the marks will be traced onto the black paper. After this, we can just remove the map, and glue the pyramids to the black paper of the base.

NEW DIMENSIONS

Last lesson, I had finished the Menkaure pyramid, and soon found out that we had the wrong dimensions. The reason for this, was because of a misunderstanding of which angle was 53 between the group, and therefore some calculations were wrong. Now, I have looked up on all the measurements again, and done the calculations again in order for us to continue next lesson. The new dimensions are listed here:

The Great Pyramid
Base: 23.03 cm
Height: 14.6 cm
Slant height: 18.6 cm

Khefren Pyramid
Base: 21.5 cm
Height: 14.35 cm
Slant height: 17.9 cm

Menkaure Pyramid
Base: 10.5 cm
Height: 6.55 cm
Slant height: 8.7 cm

Pyramids of Queens
G1a & G1c
Base: 3.5 cm
Height: 2.32 cm
Slant height: 2.91 cm

G1b
Base: 4 cm
Height: 2.65 cm
Slant height: 3.32 cm

Failures

Sooo.........
We've had a few fails. The first, Khufu Mark one (In red card)ended up slaughtered by glue and inaccuracy. Khufu Mark two (In black card) ended up with one nice edge, two half-nice edges, and one pretty poor edge. Menkaure Mark 1 ended up too short, and Khafre V1 is not yet finished, on the grounds of "Don't bother, it's probably wrong."......
On the upside, though, We've decided on a colour scheme. I originally wanted it as "gay" as possible, but I was quickly downvoted. Second, Lodin and I wanted a sort of warm scheme, with red, yellow and orange pyramids, but this was also downvoted. In the end, we settled on gold pyramids on black ground (Though I would've liked it to be silver instead of gold.)

So far - Anisha

We now think that we have enough information to get started with the maths of the project, even though we have only spent a double lesson to gather the info. We have decided to create a plan on exactly where the position of all the pyramids will be, which we think will make it easier for us when placing the pyramids on the real base. We have not yet decided upon the material we will use, but it will most likely be cardboard. The group is working well together, and that is very good!
